The Bus Stop Theatre is a multi-configurable performance venue located on Gottingen St in north end Halifax. Through its rental operations, the Bus Stop Theatre serves a wide range of artistic and community interests. Its affordable rental rates make it a crucial piece of infrastructure for both emerging and established artists and also a regular venue for many community events. The Bus Stop Theatre also runs educational and showcasing programs that help develop the skills and careers of local emerging talent.
Sebastien Labelle, Executive Director of the Bus Stop Theatre Cooperative, will present plans to secure a future for what has become an essential community hub and arts incubator in north end Halifax. After serving artists and community organizations for 16 years, the Bus Stop Theatre's future is in jeopardy due to the potential sale of the building housing it. The cooperative managing the theatre has developed a business plan for the acquisition of the theatre and the expansion of its facilities to include a new second performance space and additional rehearsal studios with a continued mandate to serve emerging artists and underserved communities.

Ribfest Debrief (July 19) - A preliminary debrief and discussion about Ribfest 2019, Halifax Harbourside Rotary's primary fundraiser. We have some new(ish) things to talk about, e.g. the 50/50 tickets were new this year, Easter Seals was our gate partner collecting donations, etc. Like good Nova Scotians though, we're going to talk about the weather. Maya Sloan is a new member of Halifax Harbourside Rotary, so she will share some things about herself in her introduction talk. Maya is a counselling therapist and speech language pathologist. Maya grew up in Germany where she completed speech therapy training at university hospital in Aachen. In 1994, she moved to England where she completed a Master of Science Degree in Human Communication and specialized in stuttering. Maya came to Nova Scotia in 2003 with her young family and began working in the Halifax Regional School Board. Then, in 2010, she completed a Master Program in Counselling at Acadia University in 2010. Maya is also a long time mindfulness practitioner. Maya left HRSB to establish herself as a play therapist, speech therapist for stuttering, dyslexia tutor and family and individual therapist. Halifax Rotaract and Halifax Harbourside Rotary are holding a joint meeting. Our objective is to share a brief rundown of our plans for this year, so we can decide how best to help each other. The meeting will take place in the Student Union Building room 302 on the Dalhousie campus, 6136 University Ave. Parking in the lot beside Le Merchant Place (next to the sports field) is free after 4:30. Access the lot from South Street. Meeting starts at 6:30 and will run until 7:30 or 8. We are still working on the presentation; I suspect that it will be around 30 minutes, leaving some time for discussion afterwards. Food is available at the University Club, next to the sports field. (The Grawood isn't open in the summer.) After the meeting, we may continue over a few adult beverages (at the University club?). More information to follow closer to the date. |

Louisa Horne has been a member of RCHH since 2006 and is a Past President of the club. She now serves as the Chair of the Rotary Leadership Team for our district (NS, PEI, NL and St.-Pierre-et-Miquelon). Louisa is a Management Consultant, Entrepreneur and Educator and has facilitated workshops at International Rotary Conferences in Toronto and Hamburg. One of the usual tasks of a Chair of the District Leadership Team (aka: District Governor) is to visit and present to each Rotary club in the district. Louisa is doing this by way of a video that introduces the International President, RI CEO, our Director and the district team – along with several challenges for us to consider this year that will help us “move the needle”. In most cases, Area Governors are facilitating the video and questions, but in our case, Louisa will be at the meeting to answer questions about the challenges and discuss needles we want to move. ---------------------------------------------------------- We are a diverse and welcoming group, and we’d be honoured if you joined us.
